Western Coalfields to expand Ghonsa mine
The Coal India subsidiary, Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) has received clearance from the Union Environment Ministry for expanding production capacity of its Ghonsa open cast mine in Maharashtra at a cost of over Rs 102 crore.The expansion will enable the company to increase the capacity to 0.60 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) from 0.45 mtpa with an increase in mine lease area to 278.68 hectare from 128.79 hectare.

Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (Mahagenco) has charged Western Coalfields Ltd for over charging and supplying low-grade quality coal containing higher percentage of impurities leading to losses.
Govt to hire consultant to restructure Coal India
Government is in the process of hiring an external consultant to advise on the restructuring of Coal India (CIL) for a long term sustainability roadmap. The government is learnt to have shortlisted nine consultants for the purpose.
